Privacy Policy
General Terms
Last updated: 29 September 2026
This privacy policy applies to the theairsoftworkshop.com website and the TAW Recon mobile application, operated by The Airsoft Workshop.
We are committed to protecting your personal data and respecting your privacy. For the purposes of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the EU General Data Protection Regulation (EU GDPR), we are the data controller.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account information. If you create a TAW account (via our website or the TAW Recon app), we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials (or, if you choose to sign in using Google or Apple, the name and email address securely shared by them). You may also optionally add a callsign, default team name, and profile photo.
1.2 Location data (TAW Recon app only). When participating in an active team session in TAW Recon, the app collects precise real-time location data (latitude, longitude, heading, and accuracy) to display your position to your squadmates. To maintain team visibility without requiring you to keep your screen unlocked, this collection may continue in the background using native device location services while a session is active. We also record your current in-game status (e.g., alive, dead, medic, support).
-
Access Control: Your location is visible exclusively to members of your immediate game session. It is never made public, never monetised or sold, and never used for advertising purposes.
-
Retention: Live position data is temporary and permanently deleted from our servers as soon as the session leader terminates the game.
-
Choice: Location tracking is entirely optional and functions only during active session participation.
1.3 User-generated content and transaction data. We collect operational map elements you create during gameplay (such as markers, zones, and custom team names), support messages, feedback enquiries, and details required to fulfil physical orders or equipment repairs (including postal address and phone number).
1.4 Technical and device information. We automatically collect standard technical data when you browse our website, including browser type, device identifiers, IP address, and cookie identifiers. The TAW Recon app does not use cookies but stores local preferences on your device (such as callsign and unit preferences) to streamline your user experience.
2. Legal Basis for Processing (UK and EU GDPR)
We collect and process your personal data only where we have a lawful basis to do so:
-
Performance of a contract: Processing your account details, order info, and live location data is necessary to deliver the features and services you request.
-
Legitimate interests: Using technical telemetry to secure our systems, prevent fraud, and improve the performance of our website and app.
-
Consent: Where you opt-in to marketing communications or voluntary data submissions.
3. Data Sharing and International Transfers
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with essential third-party processors who assist in running our infrastructure:
-
Supabase — Hosts live positioning, waypoints, and team data on servers located securely within the European Union.
-
Mapbox — Provides map interface tiles within the application.
-
Wix — Hosts our website and manages account authentication frameworks.
-
Google and Apple — Authenticate identity if you choose single sign-on options.
Global Transfers: Because TAW Recon is used worldwide, your data may be processed outside the UK or the European Economic Area (EEA), including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred internationally, we ensure adequate legal protections are in place. Transfers to Supabase within the EU benefit from the UK's adequacy regulations regarding the EEA. For US-based providers (such as Mapbox, Google, or Apple), we rely on approved transfer mechanisms, including the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs).
4. Cookies and Tracking Technologies
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to measure site traffic and improve performance. You can control cookie preferences via your browser settings. The TAW Recon app does not utilise cookies.
5. Data Security
We implement robust administrative, technical, and physical safeguards—including database-level access constraints restricting real-time telemetry strictly to session peers, and strict encryption in transit—to protect your personal information. While no digital platform can guarantee absolute security, we continuously review our security posture to mitigate risks.
6. Third-Party Links
Our platform may feature links to external websites or services not operated by us. We hold no responsibility for the privacy policies or security practices of third-party sites.
7. Children's Privacy
The TAW Recon app and website are designed for users aged 13 and older (or the minimum digital consent age applicable within your jurisdiction). If you reside in certain EU member states where the digital age of consent is 16 under GDPR Article 8, please note regional restrictions apply. We do not knowingly collect data from minors below the applicable threshold without verifiable parental consent. If we discover that a user under the legal age has provided personal data, we will terminate the account and purge the data promptly.
8. Your Data Protection Rights
Depending on your global location, you hold specific rights regarding your personal data under privacy laws (including UK/EU GDPR and consumer privacy frameworks):
-
Access and Correction: You can review or update your profile information directly within the app or website settings.
-
Deletion: You can permanently delete your account at any time through the profile menu in TAW Recon. This triggers an immediate, irreversible wipe of your account credentials, session history, location traces, markers, and zones.
-
Objection and Restriction: You can object to processing or withdraw marketing consent at any time.
If you are located in the UK or EEA and feel your data rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority—in the UK, this is the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) via ico.org.uk.
9. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this policy periodically to reflect feature expansions or regulatory changes. Material updates will be highlighted within the app or website alongside a revised "Last updated" date.
